Wired.com has a feature on architecture that never was. It begins with an image of Frank Lloyd Wright’s mile-high skycraper, The Illinois, as it would look against Chicago’s 2005 skyline. Pointless, but cool

I have a book made up entire of drawings Wright generated for structures which were never built. Perhaps I’ll scan and post some of my favorites.
There was an interesting display some years ago at the home and flower show in Pittsburgh; they put together a few rooms you could walk through based on a design Mr. Wright did for a Mt. Washington skyscraper.
If you have a chance to come by The Lives and Times… over the next few days I’ll be posting some shots from a recent, and unexpected, visit to Oberlin!
No imaginary representation of the Illinois built in downtown Chicago would be complete without indicating that every nearby building would have to be leveled to provide for the massive transportation system needed to fill, service and empty the place. But it does look great in the skyline.
